“The NSABP B-06 trial was the first trial to establish BCS as a feasible treatment option for early invasive breast cancer when used in conjunction with radiation (8). No significant difference in OS or disease-free survival (DFS) was found in patients receiving BCS with or without radiation compared to those receiving modified radical mastectomy. The rate of local regional recurrence (LRR) was significantly higher in those who underwent lumpectomy without radiation (8).” (Keelan, et al., p. 2)
